GRAPHICS cARD OR MORE rAM?

If I get a graphics card will it speed up my computer since my graphic card is intergrated into a P4 processers and uses up ram in order to run. Will I notice the difference with a new graphics card or will i have to get ram to notice the difference. I am planing to get 2 gb more to my 512mb i already have. But which should i choose. Also what do i look at when buying a graphics card. I am a noob. What does the 512mb or 256mb mean on the graphic card. is more better. What is a good graphics card for not a very expensive price. like less then $150. Which brand should i pick. Nvidia or Ati

With Windows Vista, more RAM and better video card would make a huge difference. With Windows XP, more RAM will help a bit.

I'd pick Nvidia. But if you are thinking about Windows Vista in your future, then look for a Windows Vista ready video card... you just might want the WOW. But aim for 2GB of RAM; and 512MB of RAM on the video card.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

GRAPHICS cARD OR MORE rAM?

get both

GRAPHICS cARD OR MORE rAM?

kinda yes. I'd get both, upgrade Ram to 1Gig then go get a 512 Mb graphics card. take your pick there both good brands. games these days like elder scrolls require at least 1gig of ram at least 512 graphic card and something like 2 or 3 Ghz processor.

Hey mate, from what you have mentioned buying a graphics card is only going to improve the screen resolution and not really add much on to speeding up your pc. since you have 512 it might be likely that it is already using up 2 slots (normally motherboard only has 2 slots for RAM and ideally you divide the RAM by 2 and put 2 RAM modules.) So from this assumption i would recommend buying 2 x 1 gb RAM modules and putting it in and you will really be able to notice the difference. As if you are just surfing the net and not really playing games or any high end graphics application user, a graphic card is not really going to do much good but you can get a 128 mb one if you really want to put it in.

Cheers

If you have tried some games, and your onboard can't handle it then yea, get a new graphics card, and also getting more ram will help alot.

Your motherboard may have already got the RAM slots filled with 2 256mb modules. You want to take these out and get 2 x 512mb or 2 x 1gb modules.

But depending how old your PC is your motherboard may only support DDR ram and a max of 2gb ram or something.

And the 256mb and 512mb with graphics cards is slightly different, it means the amount of memory.

The more memory the better it plays on righer resolutions if you have a computer that runs at 1680x1050 or below you should be fine with 256mb or video ram but if your playing on higher than that go with 512mb

(See what your running by right clicking on desktop, click properties and go to the settings tab, bottom left will tell you wat resolution your using at the moment, and getting a 512mb one wont do any harm, just it probly will never all get used, so 256mb will be just as good in this instance)

ATi and nVidia are both good brands. Though if your looking for a directX 10 card then i suggest you go for the nVidia series, but for directx 9 ATi are cheaper.

For $150 you could probly get either the DirectX9 ATi X1950 or the DirectX10 nVidia 8600GS.

But thats just an opinion, and im sure others may say different.

GRAPHICS cARD OR MORE rAM?

graphic card WILL NOT speed up the computer! Graphic Card only will makes the video or picture become clear and when you play video(some) and 3d games it will be more 3D. if u want to speed up the computer why don't upgrade the processor instead of upgrading the ram. Processor will make a major performance improve. If graphic card, Nvidia i WILL RECOMMEND, it's better compare to ATI (if buying a same price product).
