Graphics Card / Video Card?

My computer is a hp pavilion v70s, and it's a bout 7 years old. Anyways, a couple weeks ago my dad put a new piece of memory into out computer, after it was installed a couple days later the graphics card started to mess up, Like the graphics are all disorted and the only way to get it to go back is to reset the whole computer. And the graphics card just randomly messes up so you could be doing something rly important when it does that. It's been doing this for the past few weeks so my dad put the old memory back in and it still messes up! Any ideas? Thanks.

* I know it as a graphics card but I think its the same thing as a video card.

Graphics Card / Video Card?

It most probably is the graphics/video card (they're the same thing AFAIK). I'm not sure what computer you're using, as it seems that the HP Pavilion V70s is just a monitor (from the google I ran).

There could be two things wrong with the graphics card: either it's just the software that's messed up, i.e. the windows driver for the card (the software that tells windows how to use your card - explains why the system would act up occasionally, happened to me last week - most often happens if you try to overclock the card, though) or the card itself might be failing, seeing as how it's 7 years old.

Being that old, I imagine it's an AGP card, unless it's integrated into the mainboard - you'll need to make sure you get an AGP replacement, and not the more common PCI-Express cards that are made today.
