A strange loud really annoying humming sound started coming from my computer, upon investigation I have determined that it is being produced by the way the fan on the graphics card is connected to the graphics card. I disconnected the fan from the graphics card, with the fan still running and the humming was gone, put it back on and the annoying noise started up again, Now my question is what can i do to fix this problem? The fan is attached to the graphics card by 2 springloaded plastic rods, and there is some white goo between the fan and graphics card.
Problem with Graphics card fan?
First, that white goo is called ThermalGel, don't wipe it off because it helps the heat get off your video card. Try and see if you can notice your fan hitting anything while it is running. Make sure the spring rods aren't touching the fan. It could also be the angle of the fan itself. sometimes, fans make that noise because they are hitting the edge of the inside of the fan because of an offset axis. If all else fails, contact the manufacturer and get it taken care of. If nothing else works, and you still want that video card, you might be able to either buy a liquid cooling system that can connect to your card, or you can buy a PCI Chip cooler than can keep it cool and take the video card fan right off.
