Graphics card or RAM?

ok so i have this comp dell dimension e310 and it has GMA(graphics media accelorator)

i have 1 gig of RAM

graphics has 8.1 direct x game i lagg on needs 9.0 direct X

i dont know what i should get 2 gigs of RAM or a graphics card with 9.0 direct X

Consider upgrading both. One won't do much good without the other.

Get a graphics card that supports DX10, either a GeForce 8000 series or equivalent ATI card.

1 Gig RAM is fine for now but there are a few games now for which 1GB almost doesn't cut it. Get the extra gigabyte of RAM.

Well, first of all, updating your DirectX probably won't help.

It's primarily because it's your Intel GMA the fault here, sadly, the Intel GMA series are not suitable for high performance gaming, and so, it is recommended to buy a video something like an ATI X1950 (For fastest DX9 performance.) or a GeForce 8600GT (Decent performance for DX10 games.) .

Also you did not mention that processor do you have, having a slow processor could slow things down as well .
