Graphics Design Web Design question?

Hi I am 15 and have realized I am dead serious about wanting a career in Graphics Design/Web Design

I am currently taking 2 web design classes in school, I find that they are easy, most of the stuff I had already self taught myself.

Anyway I have been self teaching myself Photoshop, which I have been using A LOT.. I also have Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign, and Dreamweaver 8, Is that enough to get started in Graphics, Web Design

If not , can you list some programs I should get eventually, I have a Mac so if it is a Windows software I cant use it untill I upgrade my Mac.. So I do not need to know about Windows programs unless they are a MUST,

Thanks and any info or advice would be great thanks!

You're good with what you got. But depends on what route of graphic design you want to take. I'm a web/computer graphics designer and that's basically what I use; Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver.

Best thing to do is go to a library and borrow some books.

Also, go to a book store and pick up some magazines for Mac; they usually have some pretty good Photoshop stuff that you can use in your web design projects.

Oh, and never stop going to school. Take as many classes as you can now, so by the time you get into your adult hood, you'll be set to go for a career.

Best of luck!

mmmm.. you could get 3ds max which is a great program for 3ds rendering and you will find it pretty much interesting to use after you learn how, also adobe flash is pretty cool for creating easier cartoonish looking graphics than photoshop... by the way i am 15 too and love graphics and web design too :D

ah, I'm a graphic designer. These are all great programs that we use in the field. You should check into adobe go live, adobe after effects. These are motion graphics programs. very good to have this skill in graphic design. This will further your job options and pay. Learn as much as you can of the programs, this will make school a better experience because you will be able to focus more attention to learning the design rules etc.. Good luck, hope you all the best.

I think that this is an extremely good start for a 15 year old. I have been designing websites as a hobby for about 8 years and am still using Macromedia Studio MX Suit, and it has been able to do whatever I wanted it to. (Macromedia was bought out by Adobe, and made the products you are using now.) It includes Dreamweaver, Fireworks, FlashStudio, Freehand, and ColdFusion. I am not sure what the equivalents to those are now, but I think you are on the right track!

Stick with it! Good Luck!

The Adobe collection is a must for the designer. You really got what you need to start with. Like stated before Adobe Flash is an awesome program that can create great web triks. You might want to look into Adobe's Fireworks too! I have 3dsMax and Maya which are great for 3d applications and you might want to eventually head that direction. They are little used for web design though. There are a plethora of information and tutorials on photoshop and all these programs on the web. Stay in school and never stop practicing. I am attending Westwood Onlin for my BA in animation they are great. They also have web and game design along with a visual communications degree. Check out cgarena.com for tutorials and to stay up-to-date!

That's plenty, though I'd say learning to use a couple open source apps like the Gimp and Inkscape (they use X11 which is on the 2nd disk that came with your Mac) might be a good idea just because you may be hired sometime by someone who doesn't want to buy Adobe's expensive licenses. My summer job was web design at a place that was really tight on budget, so I installed the Gimp for them.

Also, if you only know how to make sites using Dreamweaver, go learn XHTML and CSS ASAP!

Don't get caught up on the technical. It doesn't matter what software you use, what matters is you concentrate on learning the basics of design, color theory, typography, layout.. etc.

But for web design specifically, I recommend Flash over HTML/CSS, there is so much more you can do with it.
