Graphics/video cards ...????????

i was thinking of upgrading my 7950gt graphics card to the 8 series of graphics cards. i was wondering, you can play 2 graphics cards at the same time, do they have to be the same in order for them to both work????

Graphics/video cards ...????????

Don't get too confused....

You can use different brands of the same Chipset.

i.e. PNY 8800GTS 320MB w/ EVGA 8800GTS 320MB.

You can do that because nobody has made any changes to the manufacturing of the cards. They just all reproduce Nvidia reference cards.

Remember to verify if your motherboard supports SLI or Crossfire though.

I don't know if you want to wait any longer, but Nvidia's next generation is just right around the corner in say, november?

Graphics/video cards ...????????

I didn't think two months would be too much longer. That's a decent display adapter you have right about now. Look out for ATi's x2900xtx too. The XT model is already approaching Nvidia's GTX with newer driver releases at stock speeds and they plan on a die shrink. Report It

Graphics/video cards ...????????

Yes they have to be both the same as each of them render half the screen in all dual GPU rendering modes when you get an 8series get at least a 8800 gts as the lower series are a downgrade.

Graphics/video cards ...????????

yes welshy, you can use 2 cards at the same time, however they need to be from the same chip type

for example you curently have the geforce 7950gt card,so you need to get another 7950gt card to run these together

you also need to make sure your motherboard has 2 x pci-express slots(s.l.i compatible)

however the 7950gt is in reality 2 cards moulded onto one board so you can basically have sli graphics but by using only 1 x pci-express slot, this card was also used in the first ever quad sli graphics set up(4 x graphic cards)

the main problem though welshy is you are gonna have to shell out another 鎷?00 for another 7950gt,so is it worth it?

your graphics and gaming should be pretty good now,so why do you need another card

for a real graphic boost why not buy a ageia physX pci card(http://www.ageia.com/physx/),this is basicaly a add on card that fits in a spare pci-bus slot and enhances your games by making explosions and gunshots look more real by utelising the physics within the game(when a wall is hit by a bomb the bricks will actually blow into thousands of peices and each one will act independently and bounce of other objects)

its a pretty cool peice of hardware and costs around 鎷?00

any problems let me know

good luck welshy!
