Question about putting graphics card in pc with integrated graphics.?

ok i have a new Acer computer. it has ATI Radeon 1250 series integrated graphics but i want to replace it with a NVidia 8600GT graphics card for PCI Express x16. i was told that in order for my graphics card to function at its best i must disable my integrated graphics or the card will not perform any better than the integrated. is this true and if so how?

it is true on some system. however, there are some system that automatically disables the onboard graphics the moment it detects the video card. to be sure, go to your BIOS and see if you can find something relating to onboard video.

After you put the 8600 in boot up into bios and disable your onboard graphics there. I'd even uninstall the ATI drivers to free up resources after you're happy with the 8600. Don't even bother with the drivers on the CD that come with the card. Go to Nvidias website and download the latest drivers from there onto your desktop and use them from the get go.



Make sure your power supply has enough watts and +12V amps to run an 8600GT. With the 8600GT being replaced by the just released 9600GT there are some really sweet deals on the 8600s.

If your computer has a pci express x16, it should automatically disable ur integrated graphics when running from your new nvidia 8600. also to mention, after you install the card, download the drivers for it at the website or the cd that comes wit it cuz if u dont...PHAIL....hope this help, and geforce 8600 gt is a nice card btw
