Serious problem with graphics devices - only displaying 4 colours.?

I cannot increase my computer's display beyond 4 bit colour and 800x600 resolution. I have tried with the built-in SiS graphics card and an Nvidia graphics card. There is a conflict between my SiS Accelerated Graphics Port and VGASave, my monitor shows up as 'default monitor' in display properties and the computer seems to be using VGASave as the graphics driver. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the new nvidia graphics card, updated all the drivers and still no joy. Help, please!

I think I know what you are talking about, model numbers of the cards would be nice but I think I might be able to help.

For starters your computer might be trying to use the wrong video card for you. To solve this (or eliminate a possibility) you will need to make some changes in your computers bios. I can't tell how computer literate you are, but if your not to great, don't worry, this isn't to hard. What you have to do is, if you have your computers instruction manual, look in there for how to go into bios, I can't tell you specifically because every computer is a little different. Most likely you will have to turn off and restart the computer, immediately when you turn it on you should see your computer manufacturers screen you will need to quickly press one of your F keys (possibilities may be F2, F12, F9, F10) you will need to look on the screen to see what key to press. Once in your Bios, look for something labeled graphics or video or a tab labeled PCI cards or something similar to that. Make a change so that it says add in (or similar) for video/graphics card, make sure it is not set to motherboard or built in. Do NOT make any other changes in your bios, there really isn't much that you could do to mess things up but don't take a chance. Press Escape or (Esc) and choose save changes and exit. Your computer will not start up normally.

If this does not help, make sure to go to here http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/dr... this is Nvidia's website where you will be able to download the latest drivers for you card which could be causing problems. You will need to know things such as you Operating System (such as Windows Vista, XP, 2000, etc) and the card number (to find this right click on your desktop and choose properties, click settings and look at the card number (it should say Default Monitor on Nvidia ______), use this on Nvidia's website. Install these drivers and restart your computer.

If this does not help, go into the device manager by right clicking on My Computer, choosing properties, Hardware tab, then clicking Device manager. Click on the plus next to display adapters make sure that neither of them shows a red x or a yellow question mark. If the Nvidia one does make sure your drivers are correct as I described above. If they don't, right click on the non-Nvidia card (I think you said it was a SiS Accelerated Graphics or something similar to that), and choose disable. (Before you do this make sure you have your monitor set to the Nvidia card). Also while in Device manager check to make sure that the monitors are working by clicking on the plus next to monitors and making sure that none of them has a red x or a yellow question mark. You will now probably have to restart your computer again.

Finally, if you are still having problems, make sure that you have a monitor that can support more than four colors and more than a 800x600 resolution (I would assume that most monitors do so this is probably not a problem). Also try contacting your computer manufacturer and Nvidia, they should be able to help solve this problem.

Hope this Helps! Good Luck!

your software is in 16bit mode and your graphics card reverts to that when you use it

change software setup to 32 or 64 bit to match pc grapics
